If football is often 90 minutes of theatrical mayhem, then cricket can be a quieter affair. Yet cricket is often described as the quintessential English experience. 'The show I really hope I get to see is Cri du Canard. I used to host couch surfers and a Parisien guest (who had an excellent command of English from watching Dr Who) took me to a French Dance night in Stamford Arts Centre. I live in Stamford and didn't know it was on, but people had travelled from all over Europe to go to it. It was magical and much more like Scottish ceilidh dancing than you'd think.
